The Art of Pure Kancheepuram: A Weaver's Legacy

A Kancheepuram silk saree is more than just six yards of fabric; it is an heirloom, a memory, and a masterpiece of Indian craftsmanship. At SSP Silks, we believe that with the right care, your favorite saree can retain its luster and strength for decades.

1. The Golden Rule of Storage

Never hang your silk sarees on metal hangers, as this can cause permanent creases and even tear the delicate silk fibers over time. Instead:

  • Wrap in Cotton: Store each saree in a soft, breathable muslin or cotton cloth. Avoid plastic covers, which can trap moisture and cause the zari to turn black.
  • Refold Regularly: Every 3 to 4 months, take your sarees out, let them air in a shaded room, and change the folding lines to prevent "shredding" at the creases.

2. Protecting the Zari (Gold & Silver Threads)

The hallmark of an SSP Silks masterpiece is the pure zari. To keep it shining:

  • Fold the saree with the zari side inward to protect it from external friction.
  • Keep sarees away from perfumes and deodorants, as the chemicals can cause the metallic threads to oxidize and dull.

3. Washing & Stain Removal

We always recommend Dry Cleaning for the first few washes to maintain the fabric's integrity. If you must spot-clean:

"Never use a brush or harsh detergents on silk. If you spill something, dab it gently with cold water—never rub."

4. Ironing with Caution

If your saree has deep wrinkles, iron it on a low-heat setting. Always place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the saree. Steaming is a safer alternative for removing stubborn creases without direct heat contact.
